Associate Professor Ross Sharpe is a distinguished cardiologist with over 25 years of clinical experience in cardiovascular medicine. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Queensland and has since dedicated his career to discovering new and improved cardiac techniques and procedures. He is well qualified and recognised by the Colleges of Physicians, Surgeons, and Radiologists as the first cardiologist in Australia to be trained in Endovascular interventions. A/Prof Sharpe is a cardiologist specialising in interventional cardiology. He has a particular interest in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders through minimally invasive procedures. His expertise lies in performing complex interventional procedures, including angioplasty, stenting, and the closure of left atrial appendage. As an international proctor for left atrial appendage closure, he is sought after for his expertise in this field. Aside from his clinical work, A/Prof Sharpe is actively involved in research activities. He chairs the PFO Research Foundation, an international research consortium focused on investigating Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) diseases, such as stroke and migraine, and their relationship with neurological function and disease. His research also explores the "omic" variances associated with these conditions. A/Prof Sharpe's research contributions have led to advancements in understanding and treating cardiovascular disorders. A/Prof Sharpe is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experience with the medical community. He regularly trains junior cardiologists in new interventional techniques and holds live conference case demonstrations. His dedication to teaching has made him an invaluable resource for aspiring cardiologists. Throughout his career, A/Prof Sharpe has achieved numerous milestones. In 1999, he introduced Acute Myocardial Infarct Interventional Services to the Allamanda Private Hospital, one of the first facilities of its kind in Australia. He also serves on various US Medical Device Company Advisory Boards, contributing his expertise to the development of innovative cardiovascular technologies. In addition to his clinical and research responsibilities, A/Prof Sharpe holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University, Gold Coast. This role allows him to contribute to the education of future healthcare professionals.
