Dr Guy Wright-Smith is an established interventional cardiologist practising in Tugun, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. With over 30 years of experience in the medical field, Dr Wright-Smith has earned a reputation for his expertise in coronary angioplasty and stenting, as well as renal, carotid, and peripheral angiography, angioplasty, and stenting.
Dr Wright-Smith obtained his Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Monash University in Australia in 1988. Following his medical training, he specialised in cardiology at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. He then pursued a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at The Lahey Clinic in Boston, USA, where he gained extensive experience, performing over 750 coronary angioplasties and receiving training in peripheral angioplasty.
Upon returning to Australia, Dr Wright-Smith became the first internationally trained Interventional Cardiologist to exclusively serve the Gold Coast region. His arrival introduced a new standard of excellence in cardiac care and he played a pivotal role in pioneering acute infarct angioplasty. In 1999, he established the first 24-hour angioplasty service outside of Brisbane.
Dr Wright-Smith holds various memberships, including the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, Massachusetts Medical Society, and The Australian Medical Association (AMA). Currently, he heads the Cardiac Services at Pindara Private Hospital and serves as the Director of the Cardiac Catheter laboratory and chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at John Flynn Hospital.
Not limited to his clinical practice, Dr Wright-Smith is also actively involved in medical education. He frequently delivers lectures to general practitioners, nurses, ambulance officers, and medical students at Griffith University. Additionally, he participates in local, national, and international cardiac educational meetings, further contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge in his field.
