Dr Tony Lai is a highly experienced cardiologist specialising in ischaemic heart disease, chest pain, arrhythmia, valvular heart disease, heart failure, preoperative cardiac assessment, and invasive cardiac procedures. Based in Southport, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, Dr Lai serves patients across the region and is associated with prestigious hospitals including Gold Coast Private Hospital, Pindara Private Hospital, and John Flynn Private Hospital. Dr Lai earned his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Queensland and pursued advanced training in cardiology at The Prince Charles Hospital, Townsville, and the Gold Coast Hospital. He holds Fellowship status with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), obtained in 2009, and is also a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ), granted in 2012. Seeking to enhance his expertise in interventional cardiology, Dr Lai completed a two-year fellowship at McMaster University in Canada. During this period, he gained extensive experience in performing invasive coronary angiographies, having conducted over 3000 procedures, as well as over 1300 percutaneous coronary interventions. Dr Lai is highly skilled in complex procedures such as chronic total occlusion intervention, rotational atherectomy, left main coronary artery intervention, Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) assessment, Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) measurement, PFO closure, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) assessment, and percutaneous aortic balloon valvuloplasty. Apart from his clinical practice, Dr Lai actively engages in research and education. He has co-authored numerous clinical research papers and is committed to training and educating medical students. Dr Lai provides inpatient care at John Flynn Private Hospital on a daily basis and maintains regular consultations at the Gold Coast Heart Centre located at Tugun, Southport, and Hope Island. Fluent in English, Chinese Mandarin, and Taiwanese, Dr Lai takes pride in delivering the highest level of cardiology expertise to his patients. He also offers 24-hour emergency interventional cardiac care for cases of acute myocardial infarction, ensuring prompt and critical intervention when needed.
