Dr Frances Kearney is an accomplished Cataract Surgeon, Retina Specialist, and Comprehensive Ophthalmologist based in Tugun, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. With a commitment to delivering the highest standard of medical care, Dr Kearney has undergone training in prestigious institutions in Queensland, Melbourne, London, and Edinburgh.
Dr Kearney is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology and an international member of the American Academy of Ophthalmologists. She attended the University of Queensland, where she graduated with First Class Honours in her Bachelor of Science and achieved a Distinction in her Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery Degree.
specialising in medical retina, Dr Kearney completed her training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. During her time there, she managed and treated patients with medical retina conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and vein occlusions. Dr Kearney performed intricate procedures, including intra-vitreous injections and laser treatments. Additionally, she played a key role in researching new ways of detecting early signs and symptoms of macular degeneration using advanced imaging techniques of reticular pseudodrusen.
Dr Kearney is passionate about incorporating cutting-edge technology into her practice and staying up-to-date with the latest advancements and practices in ophthalmology. She believes in empowering her patients by providing them with detailed information and a thorough understanding of their eye conditions, as well as the best possible treatment options available.
Currently practicing at the John Flynn Private Hospital, Dr Kearney has shared her expertise through authoring numerous peer-reviewed papers published in reputable medical journals such as Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, and The Medical Journal of Australia.
