Prof Jonathan Chan

Professor Jonathan Chan is an exceptionally skilled cardiologist and Director of Echocardiography at the Gold Coast Heart Centre in Benowa, Queensland, Australia. With over two decades of experience, he specialises in Multi-modality Cardiac Imaging for non-invasive assessment of coronary artery disease, heart failure, and cardiomyopathies. Additionally, he holds a consultant cardiologist appointment at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. Prof. Chan graduated from the University of Queensland with First Class Honours in Medicine in 1998. He completed his specialist cardiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and further specialised at Harvard Medical School in the US. He graduated from the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston and holds the academic title of Professor of Medicine at the Heart Foundation Research Centre and School of Medicine at Griffith University. Dedicated to maintaining high international standards in echocardiography training and education in Australia, Prof. Chan is a frequent faculty member and invited speaker at various national and international conferences, including Echo Australia, Cardiac Imaging Australasia, Echo Port Douglas, and Echo Hong Kong annual meetings. He has also been elected as a committee member on the ANZ international regional chapter of the Society of Computed Tomography (SCCT). Prof. Chan has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy postgraduate degree in Medicine for his research on the development of advanced echocardiography techniques, specifically speckle tracking technology, to improve the evaluation of heart disease. His extensive academic profile includes over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, international conference papers, and chapters in cardiology textbooks. His research has been published in reputable journals such as the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation of the American Heart Association, European Heart Journal, and Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography. Recognized by various institutions in Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom, Prof. Chan has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP), the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ), the Society of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), the Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography (SCCT), and the American College of Cardiology (FACC). Prof. Chan offers inpatient and outpatient consultation services, as well as cardiac imaging services in Echocardiography, 3 Dimensional Transoesophageal Echo, cardiac CT Angiography, and Stress Echo at Gold Coast Private and Pindara Private Hospitals.
