Dr. Sam Dowthwaite is a surgeon specialising in ENT/Head and Neck Surgery. Born and raised in Gold Coast, Sam attended Griffith University where he completed his Bachelor of Biomedical Science before going on to medical school at the University of Queensland. Continuing his training, Sam underwent additional placements to complete his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2011. With a passion for providing quality care, Sam practices all aspects of ENT / Head and Neck Surgery. His areas of focus include Paediatric ENT, sinus disease, chronic sinusitis, nasal obstruction, snoring, sleep apnoea, and salivary gland disease. While Sam enjoys caring for patients from all walks of life, his particular area of interest is head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery. After completing his fellowship, Sam obtained further training, undertaking a fellowship in London, Ontario, Canada, under the supervision of Professor John Yoo. The fellowship provided in-depth training, which allowed Sam to hone his skills in reconstructive surgery, transoral robotic surgery, thyroid, and parathyroid disease, laryngology, laryngeal cancer, and functional voice disorders. Sam aims to provide top-notch care to his patients in all aspects of ENT/Head and Neck Surgery. He holds accreditation at all major Gold Coast private hospitals as well as Greenslopes Hospital in Brisbane. Additionally, Sam has public appointments at both the Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital, attending multidisciplinary head and neck cancer clinics to ensure coordinated care for complex patients. Sam is actively involved in clinical research, holding the position of Senior Lecturer at Griffith University. He shares his knowledge and experience with medical students, resident medical officers, and registrars, enjoying the opportunity to mentor future leaders. Sam has published widely across different aspects of head and neck surgery and has presented at several scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally. His research opportunities are expanding through a close tie with Griffith University through the Gold Coast University Hospital, ultimately leading to improved outcomes for his patients. With a passion for patient well-being, Sam will continue to provide quality care to his patients for years to come.
