Professor Black is an accomplished ear surgeon with an impressive background in academia and clinical practice. Following his graduation from the University of Queensland, he completed his specialty training in Otolaryngology in prestigious medical institutions in Oxford, Edinburgh, and London. Professor Black currently operates a private practice in ear surgery on Wickham Terrace, where he focuses on keyhole cochlear implant surgery, middle ear reconstruction, and the treatment of cholesteatoma. Previously, he served as senior surgeon and Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Royal Children’s Hospital and at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, which is now Queensland Children's Hospital. During this time, Professor Black established the cochlear implant programs of the Royal Children’s Hospital, the Hear and Say Centre, and Attune Ltd, making significant contributions to the field of ear surgery. He has also consulted for Olympus Ltd in the design of middle ear prosthetic devices. Professor Black has authored “An Introduction to Ear Disease” and published over 100 articles on ear disease treatment, co-created multiple books, and served as a reviewer for various academic journals. He has also been a keynote speaker for many conferences and has been involved with the Politzer Society for many years.
