Dr George Ostapowicz

Dr George Ostapowicz is an experienced and skilled Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Endoscopist, and Co-director of the Gold Coast Centre for Digestive Diseases. He specialises in Gastroenterology with a particular interest in liver diseases and Hepatology. Dr Ostapowicz is based in Southport, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Dr Ostapowicz completed his Bachelor of Medical Science with Honors at the University of Newcastle in 1987. He then underwent training at the Royal Newcastle and John Hunter Hospitals and obtained his Bachelor of Medicine degree in 1994. Following this, he pursued a research fellowship at St Vincent's Hospital and the University of Melbourne Victoria, where he focused his studies on hepatitis C.

During his research fellowship, Dr Ostapowicz also provided clinical services at St Vincent's and the Epworth Hospitals. He further expanded his expertise by completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, USA, from 1998 to 2001. During this time, he worked at Parkland Hospital and the VA Medical Center.

After returning to Australia, Dr Ostapowicz was appointed as a staff specialist at Gold Coast Hospital. He served as the Director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Gold Coast Hospital from 2004 to July 2015. Currently, he holds an Honorary Adjunct Associate Professor position at Bond University's School of Medicine. In September 2015, Dr Ostapowicz joined the Gold Coast Centre for Digestive Diseases following the retirement of co-founder Dr David Robinson.

Dr Ostapowicz is a Visiting Medical Officer at Pindara Private and Gold Coast Private Hospitals. He performs endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy, at various medical centers, including Pindara Day Procedure Centre, Pacific Private Day Surgery, Gold Coast Private Hospital, Tweed Day Surgery, and Brockway House. With his extensive experience and dedication to patient care, Dr Ostapowicz provides the highest level of medical expertise and attention to detail to ensure the well-being of his patients.
