A/Prof Mohammad Al-Freah is a skilled gastroenterologist and hepatologist based in Benowa, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. With extensive experience gained in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, he has established himself as a leading authority in his field.

Dr Al-Freah obtained his Bachelor Degree in Medicine from the University of Baghdad before venturing to New Zealand in 1997 for his consultant physician training. His advanced training in gastroenterology was completed at respected institutions including Auckland City, North Shore, and Dunedin Hospitals in 2006. Following his training, he was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Hawkes Bay Hospital.

During his time in New Zealand, Dr Al-Freah developed a strong interest in liver disease and sought further expertise through a 5-year fellowship in hepatology at King’s College Hospital, the largest liver unit in Europe. This fellowship encompassed training in general endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound. Dr Al-Freah also worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Wirral University Hospital in Liverpool and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London while pursuing his fellowship.

In 2013, Dr Al-Freah relocated to the Gold Coast with his family. Currently serving as a Senior Staff Specialist at The Tweed Hospital, he also conducts general gastroenterology and liver consultations at Pindara Professional Centre.

Dr Al-Freah's wide-ranging practice encompasses all aspects of general gastroenterology, with a particular focus on the management of patients with cirrhosis, chronic liver disease (both alcohol and non-alcohol related), as well as viral (hepatitis B and C) and autoimmune hepatitis. He is also highly experienced in performing Upper/Lower GI Endoscopy, including Endoscopic Mucosal Resection.

Committed to advancing knowledge and expertise in his field, Dr Al-Freah has conducted research on end-stage liver disease and viral hepatitis. His findings have been published in reputable medical journals, and he has presented his research at international medical conferences. Dr Al-Freah is also actively involved in teaching medical students, junior doctors, and nurses. As an Associate Professor in Gastroenterology at Bond University, he imparts his knowledge and expertise to the next generation of medical professionals.

With his affiliation to Pindara Private Hospital, Dr Al-Freah provides GI procedural services, as well as after-hours and inpatient care. He continues to make significant contributions to the field of gastroenterology and hepatology through his clinical practice, research endeavors, and dedication to teaching and mentoring.
