Dr Heshini De Silva

Heshini De Silva is a passionate Rehabilitation Physician with expertise in pain management. She completed her education from the University of Wollongong and trained in Rehabilitation Medicine with the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, Royal Australasian College of Physicians. De Silva gained extensive experience in different areas of rehabilitation in both public and private settings, such as the Queensland Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service and Gold Coast University Hospital’s Spinal Injuries Unit and Gold Coast Private Hospital.

De Silva specializes in pain management, blending her qualifications in psychology, pharmacology, and rehabilitation to offer multidisciplinary care leveraging a biopsychosocial approach. To further her expertise, she has received advanced training from the Metro South Pain Rehabilitation Centre at Princess Alexandra Hospital and is working towards her Fellowship from the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australia New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

For over 15 years, De Silva has been working with cancer patients for rehabilitation. She started her career as a pharmacist in oncology and palliative care in Australia and New Zealand after graduating from the University of Otago in 2003. This experience and the knowledge she gained during rehabilitation training makes her an ideal physician to assist cancer patients in improving their function and quality of life.

De Silva works in collaboration with general practitioners and other highly skilled healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and speech therapists, to support patients in enhancing their quality of life. Her comprehensive approach aims to help patients recover from illness or injury, optimizing their function beyond the traditional bounds of rehabilitation and offering a personalized approach to patient care.
