Dr John Hansen

Dr John Hansen is a highly experienced General and Colorectal Surgeon with over 25 years of practice on the Sunshine Coast. He received his medical training at the University of Queensland in 1984, where he was awarded a government scholarship. After working as a Medical Practitioner in Gayndah, Mundubberra, Biggenden, and Innisfail, he pursued a career in Surgery and completed his training in General Surgery at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in 1994. Dr Hansen furthered his studies in Colorectal Surgery in Basingstoke, UK, for two years before returning to Australia in 1996.

Dr Hansen began working as a surgeon at Nambour General Hospital upon his return, where he served for five years. Afterward, he became the Director of Surgery for two years. In 2002, Dr Hansen started his private practice, where he has been actively involved in teaching Medical Students and training Surgeons. His expertise and experience have seen him appointed as the Chairman of the General Surgical Training Board of Queensland and served on the National Board of Training from 2006-2010. He was also appointed to the Court of Examiners for the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2011.

Dr Hansen is an active member of the Australian Medical Association, General Surgeons Australia, and Sunshine Coast Local Medical Association. He has also served as the Chair of the Medical Advisory groups at both Caloundra Private and Sunshine Coast University Private Hospitals. Dr Hansen attends regular meetings to keep up to date with current advances in Surgery and regularly presents his results for Audit. He is also involved in state-based committees that assess the outcomes of bowel surgery.
