Dr Hugh McGregor

Dr McGregor is an accomplished General Surgeon operating out of North Brisbane and boasting an impressive track record. In 2009, he founded Northside General Surgeons and is currently a Senior Visiting Surgeon at Redcliffe Hospital. After completing his first-class honours Medical Degree from the University of Queensland in 2000, he received his PhD from Monash University. Furthering his surgical expertise, Dr McGregor underwent advanced surgical training at the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital and various locations throughout the state.

Dr McGregor has developed a reputation for being a leader in keyhole hernia surgery and proctology, performing high volumes of procedures in those areas. Additionally, he is certified in both Colonoscopy and Endoscopy by the Gastrointestinal Society of Australia and performs a full range of General Surgery procedures. As a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery and a member of ANZ Breast Surgeons and General Surgeons Australia, Dr McGregor is committed to providing his patients with superior care.

Dr McGregor’s expertise has earned him a Senior Lecturer position in the Department of Surgery at The University of Queensland. When not performing surgeries, Dr McGregor enjoys being a father to his four children, playing Trombone in the Queenland Medical Orchestra and attending his boys’ Rugby Union matches. He also serves as a committee member at Albany Creek Brumbies Junior Rugby Union and the St. Pauls Rugby Supporters Group.

As a passionate traveler, Dr McGregor loves exploring new destinations around the world, particularly those that allow him to teach and perform hernia surgery. His interests include advanced laparoscopic and robotic hernia surgery and proctology, and he has a specific focus on caring for women with breast cancer. Dr McGregor takes great pleasure in the challenges and variety of being a General Surgeon and strives to provide the best possible care for each and every one of his patients.
