Dr Bryan Chan

Dr. Chan earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Queensland (UQ) in 2007, where he also received the prestigious University Medal. Previously, he worked as a Pharmacist after obtaining his Bachelor of Pharmacy with first-class honors from UQ in 2001. Dr. Chan completed his post-graduate Medical Oncology training across various tertiary hospitals in Queensland and went on to obtain a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2014.

To further expand his expertise, Dr. Chan pursued a 2-year clinical and research fellowship at the University of Toronto and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada. During his time there, he served as the Chief Fellow. In 2017, he returned to Queensland and joined the team at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he currently leads Thoracic Oncology and Research. Dr. Chan is an Associate Professor at Griffith University and serves as a Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland, demonstrating a strong passion for teaching and research.

In 2019, Dr. Chan obtained a Master of Medicine in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Sydney. He enjoys teaching medical students, mentoring registrars, and supervising post-graduate scholars. Dr. Chan actively participates in cancer multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and is committed to continuing medical education.

As an active Principal Investigator for clinical trials, A/Prof Chan specialises in Thoracic, Gastrointestinal, and Endocrine malignancies. He is dedicated to combining his academic and research focus with his compassionate and thorough patient care approach. Dr. Chan has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, co-authored General Practitioner education modules, and is regularly invited to speak at conferences and meetings. He also served as the convenor for the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) annual scientific meeting in 2020. Dr. Chan sits on multiple National and State-wide committees that influence evidence-based oncology practice.

Dr. Chan recently joined the team at Coastal Cancer Care and consults at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. He is passionate about providing individualized oncology treatment plans to his patients. Referrals can be sent to him via Medical Objects, email, or Fax.
