Dr Rick Abraham is an experienced and highly skilled oncologist specialising in breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, genitourinary cancer, and lung cancer. He is based in Chermside, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Dr Abraham obtained his medical education at the University of Queensland, where he earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1985. He underwent specialised training in medical oncology at the Royal Brisbane and Royal Melbourne Hospitals, honing his expertise in cancer treatment and care. Continuing his pursuit of knowledge and clinical experience, Dr Abraham pursued a post-graduate clinical research fellowship at the Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit in the University of Toronto. Under the supervision of renowned experts, Drs Michael Crump and Paul Goss, he focused on high-dose chemotherapy strategies for treating high-risk adjuvant and metastatic breast cancer patients. During his time in Canada, Dr Abraham also completed a master's degree in clinical epidemiology, collaborating with esteemed professors John McLaughlin and Steven Narod. His research centered around the relationship between hereditary ovarian cancer and chemotherapy outcomes. Returning to Brisbane, Dr Abraham began his tenure at the Royal Brisbane and Prince Charles Hospital as a staff specialist in oncology. In this role, he actively engaged in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and post-graduate medical students. Moreover, he served as a lead investigator for various major international trials, showcasing his commitment to advancing clinical research. While Dr Abraham transitioned to full-time private practice in 2012, he maintains an unwavering dedication to clinical research. His primary interests lie in the treatment of breast, lung, urological, and gastrointestinal tract malignancies. Dr Abraham's professional involvement extends beyond patient care, as he has served as the chair of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia Lung Cancer Group. He is also a longstanding member of the Queensland Co-operative Oncology Group steering committee, playing a crucial role in overseeing the funding of clinical trial nursing and data management support across oncology centers in Queensland. Currently, Dr Abraham consults at several northside locations, including Icon Cancer Centre Chermside, Caboolture Private Hospital, and Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital. His dedication, expertise, and passion for improving patient outcomes have solidified his reputation as a respected and trusted oncologist in the community.
