Dr Roly Hilling-Smith is a very skilled cardiologist and associate of the Queensland Cardiovascular Group. He completed his medical degree at Edinburgh University before undergoing specialist training in general medicine and cardiology at Fremantle Hospital and MonashHeart in Melbourne, respectively.
Subsequently, Dr Hilling-Smith went on to complete two interventional fellowships, one at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and one at the prestigious Royal Sussex County Hospital in England, where he was granted the Chamberlain Scholarship in Advanced Coronary and Structural Intervention. During these fellowships, he was involved in numerous international trials and first-in-man developments.
Dr Hilling-Smith's areas of expertise include clinical cardiology, coronary and structural intervention, and cardiac CT. He offers a wide range of percutaneous interventional procedures, including coronary stents, rotablation, and chronic total occlusion revascularization, as well as structural interventions such as TAVI, PFO/ASD closure, and percutaneous treatments of aortic and mitral valves.
Through his work, Dr Hilling-Smith has contributed to several research publications, both as an author and co-author, and has been a keynote speaker at international conferences. He is passionate about mentoring other consultants and is now a proctor of structural techniques, including the TAVI procedure.
In addition to his role as an associate at the Queensland Cardiovascular Group, Dr Hilling-Smith is a VMO at Greenslopes Hospital and a dedicated member of the Heart of Australia project, which provides cardiovascular care to remote areas of Queensland.
