Dr Yohan Chacko

Dr Yohan Chacko is an exceptionally skilled Clinical and Interventional Cardiologist based in Spring Hill, Brisbane, Australia. With a passion for clinical research and teaching, Dr Chacko has established himself as an expert in the field of cardiology, particularly in the area of Structural Heart Disease, focusing on heart valve disease.

Dr Chacko obtained his medical degree with honors from James Cook University before completing his physician and specialty cardiology training at Princess Alexandra and Nambour General Hospitals. Building upon his foundation, he undertook specialization in Interventional Cardiology at Princess Alexandra Hospital and furthered his knowledge and skills through an Interventional & Structural Cardiology Fellowship at the prestigious Stanford University in California, USA.

During his time at Stanford University, Dr Chacko focused on research in minimally invasive aortic valve therapies and advanced coronary physiology. His research included the study of fractional flow reserve, microvascular dysfunction, and myocardial bridge assessment. This experience allowed him to gain valuable insights into cutting-edge techniques and advancements in the field.

As an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland, Dr Chacko actively engages in cardiology research and teaching. He has contributed to numerous publications in both national and international journals and has written a book chapter on Interventional Cardiology. In addition, his research findings have been presented at various national and international conferences, further demonstrating his commitment to advancing the field.

Dr Chacko possesses comprehensive expertise in all aspects of clinical cardiology, specialising in chest pain assessment, coronary artery, and valvular heart disease, as well as the peri-operative management of cardiac patients. His skills extend to diagnostic coronary angiography, coronary intervention (stenting), and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Throughout his career, Dr Chacko has undertaken several leadership roles. He has served as the Chair of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Qld Trainees’ Committee, Deputy Chair of the Australian Medical Association Qld Council of Residents and Registrars, and President of the James Cook University Medical Student Association. These positions have allowed him to contribute to the development and improvement of medical education and practice.
