The Central Coast is a peri-urban area in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is located north of Sydney and south of Newcastle on the Tasman Sea coast. The region, which includes towns like Gosford, Wyong, and Terrigal, is the third-largest in New South Wales and the ninth-largest in Australia. The Watagan Mountains in the west, the Hawkesbury River in the south, and the southern end of Lake Macquarie are all regarded as part of the Central Coast. As of June 2015, the Central Coast has a population of 325,082, increasing at a rate of 1% per year, making it the third biggest metropolitan region in New South Wales.

Living in the Central Coast The central coast is a location of vast beaches, beautiful national parks, and native animal sanctuaries. This area is a water lover's paradise, with everything from surfing Avoca Bay to exploring the Hawkesbury-Nepean River's estuaries to strolling the boardwalk at The Entrance. Lagoons, lakes, and beaches surround the Entrance and The Australian Walkabout Wildlife Park near Gosford, the Central Coast's major commercial and retail centre. On the Central Coast, charming towns such as Patonga, Ettalong Beach, Avoca, Pearl Beach, and Terrigal offer a variety of activities such as fishing, swimming, and surfing. Erina Fair, the biggest single-level retail complex in the Southern Hemisphere and Australia's largest non-metropolitan shopping centre, is located on the Central Coast.

History of the Central Coast Aboriginal people have lived on the Central Coast for thousands of years. The Guringai and Darkinjung tribes of the area were among the first Aboriginal peoples to meet British immigrants. Bungaree, an Aboriginal man from the site, was one of the most influential figures in the early colonisation of New South Wales. Disease and instability caused by colonisation severely decreased the number of Aboriginal people. William Nash, a former First Fleet marine, received the first land grant in the area from the Governor of New South Wales in 1811. The area comprises a series of municipalities that have recently increased suburban development.
