Parramatta is an Aboriginal term meaning "head of streams". It was formerly known as Rose Hill. Parramatta was more significant than Sydney in its early years. It is industrialised and services an area with plant nurseries, mixed vegetable farms, automobile assembly, flour milling, textile, paint, tile, tyre, and asbestos manufacturing.
