A beautiful coastal town, Port Macquarie is situated around 390 km on the northern side of Sydney. This town is located on the eastern side of Oxley Highway, near the mouth of Hastings River and on Tasman Sea Coast. History of Port Macquarie In 1818, the Europeans visited the site for the first time. John Oxley had reached the area as he set on an exploration journey. The area is also famed for being the region where sugarcane was cultivated for the first time. Port Macquarie was opened to settlers for the first time in 1830. Settlers preferred the place mainly due to fisheries opportunities, timber sources and pastoral land.
