The Australian town of Taree is situated on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. Lying within the local government area of the Mid-Coast Council, Taree is located 16 kilometres from the Tasman Sea coast. Besides, Taree falls under the Federal electorate of Lyne and the state electorate of Myall Lakes. As per the 2016 census records, the town had a population of 25,852 inhabitants.

History of Taree The town got its name from “tareebit”, meaning “tree by the river” in the Biripi language. The Biripi or Birpai were the indigenous Australian people of the land now known as Taree.

In 1854, Henry Flett laid out Taree as a private town. Later, on 26 March 1885, the area was declared a municipality.
