Dr Douglas MacLean

Dr Douglas MacLean is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in surgeries related to the hip, knee, shoulder, and upper limb. With almost 15 years of experience, Dr MacLean has been serving the Sunshine Coast community and has made significant contributions to the field of orthopaedic surgery over the past 20 years.

Dr MacLean has a particular interest in applying newer techniques and technologies to improve outcomes for his patients. He is known for introducing the Minimally Invasive, Rapid Recovery Anterior Approach Hip Replacement and Hip Arthroscopy Surgery to the Sunshine Coast. Additionally, he is one of the few surgeons who can perform Robotic Assisted Knee Replacement Surgery, using advanced technology to create individualized surgical plans for better recovery and a more natural feeling in knee replacements.

To ensure timely and appropriate initial management for acute injuries, Dr MacLean operates a Rapid Assessment Sports Injury Clinic, with urgent review appointments available each week. He is passionate about relieving people's pain and restoring them to normal function. Dr MacLean also enjoys exploring human biomechanics and helping patients understand how their joints function, specifically the hip, knee, and shoulder joints.

Outside of work, Dr MacLean values spending time with his family and participating in outdoor activities like surfing and cycling. He is available for consultations and operations at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital in Birtinya and Noosa Hospital in Noosaville. Additionally, he contributes to the public system by consulting and operating at Sunshine Coast University Hospital one day per week.
