Dr Thorbjorn Loch-Wilkinson

Dr Thorbjorn (Toby) Loch-Wilkinson is a highly qualified and accomplished neurosurgeon based in Brisbane, Australia. His clinical interests include spinal and peripheral nerve conditions, as well as a wide range of cranial and brain conditions. Dr Loch-Wilkinson has a comprehensive medical education that began with undergraduate studies in science at the University of Sydney, where he majored in chemistry. He earned a traveling scholarship to study chemistry at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden before going on to complete his studies in medicine and surgery at the University of Sydney. During his studies, he received multiple honors and awards, including the prestigious Mitchell Craig Prize in Surgery and the RSL traveling scholarship to visit Papua New Guinea hospitals. Prior to becoming a neurosurgeon, Dr Loch-Wilkinson served as an artillery and medical corps officer in the Australian Army Reserve.

Dr Loch-Wilkinson undertook his neurosurgical training in multiple centers of excellence in Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia before receiving his fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2016. He then went on to complete further advanced fellowship training in peripheral nerve surgery at the University of Calgary in Canada and a complex spine surgery fellowship in adults and pediatric spine surgery in Brisbane at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Mater Hospital, and Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital. Dr Loch-Wilkinson is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia and has published multiple research articles in peer-reviewed journals on spinal and peripheral nerve conditions.

Outside of work, Dr Loch-Wilkinson enjoys spending time with his young family and participating in outdoor activities such as bushwalking, mountain biking, and kayaking. He has a private practice based at the Brisbane Private Hospital, where patients can benefit from his expertise and experience in treating a broad range of neurosurgical conditions.
