Dr Mackay is a highly skilled plastic and reconstructive surgeon, with his private practice located at the Brisbane Private Hospital Specialist Centre. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland, where he earned degrees in science, medicine and surgery. His medical journey continued with an internship and basic surgical training at Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital, followed by advanced surgical training in general surgery. However, he was then selected for further training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, which led to his attainment of a fellowship at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Mackay's interests have always been at the forefront of his profession, leading him to pursue advanced surgical then hand and microsurgery training in Adelaide's Royal Adelaide Hospital. During his fellowship, he had the privilege of working alongside senior surgeons in their private practice, learning advanced surgical techniques and methods. This extensive fellowship involved him in a large volume of hand trauma and microsurgical reconstructions. Dr Mackay's focus expanded into education and training; thus, he regularly teaches junior doctors and registrars. His dedication to serving his profession earned him a seat on the board of the Australian Hand Surgery Society. Dr Mackay also serves as a visiting consultant surgeon at the Royal Brisbane, where he expertly takes on and treats patients with diverse hand surgery and reconstructive problems. He actively deals too with complex problems in association with surgeons from other areas of expertise such as orthopaedics, significantly increasing the scope of his practice, making him a valuable member of the Hand Clinic at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
