Dr Jason Cassar

Dr Jason Cassar is a highly skilled and experienced ophthalmologist with a speciality in vitreo-retinal and cataract surgery. He currently practices in Taringa, a suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Dr Cassar obtained his Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees in Queensland and went on to complete his ophthalmic training in the same region. After completing his training, he pursued further specialization in vitreo-retinal and medical retina surgery in the United Kingdom.

During his time in the UK, Dr Cassar completed fellowships at esteemed institutions such as the Hull and East Yorkshire Eye Hospital, the Prince Charles Eye Unit Windsor, and the Royal Berkshire Hospital. These fellowships allowed him to gain extensive expertise in the latest advancements in vitreo-retinal surgery, laser techniques, and injectable medicines. He also received additional training at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, focusing on cutting-edge treatments for macular disease.

Dr Cassar currently holds the title of Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO). He is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane and also visits Rockhampton Base Hospital. Additionally, he consults privately at Eye Co Ophthalmic Surgeons in Sunnybank, Cura Specialist Suites in Spring Hill, and Northern Rivers Eye Surgeons in Lismore, NSW.

Dr Cassar's special interests lie in conditions such as retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, vitreous hemorrhage, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, cataracts, retinal tears (flashes and floaters), retinal vein occlusions, and macular edema.
