Dr Nicholas Toalster is an exceptionally skilled ophthalmologist specialising in cataract, corneal, and glaucoma microsurgeries. He is proficient in the latest laser surgical techniques and minimally invasive technologies. Dr Toalster obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science in Optometry (Honours) from the Queensland University of Technology and his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) from the University of Queensland. After completing his medical studies, Dr Toalster pursued ophthalmology training in Sydney, where he gained invaluable experience working in diverse medical settings, from rural communities in the Northern Territory to major hospitals in Sydney and Melbourne. He further refined his expertise through two additional years of subspecialty fellowships focused on glaucoma, cornea, and anterior segment disease. Having a background in both optometry and ophthalmology, Dr Toalster is at the forefront of eye disease comanagement. He played a pivotal role in developing a leading glaucoma comanagement program at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital. Additionally, as a corneal transplant surgeon, he contributed to the groundbreaking non-grafting treatments for corneal degenerative disease at the Sydney Eye Hospital. Dr Toalster is dedicated to introducing these innovative treatment approaches to his patients in Queensland. Dr Toalster is actively involved in ocular research and has a vast publication record covering various topics, including anti-VEGF treatment of macular degeneration, glaucoma management, and corneal disease. He is particularly passionate about nurturing the next generation of eye care professionals and currently serves on the Board of Examiners for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and the Committee for Diversity and Inclusiveness. Dr Toalster practices at Okko Eye Specialists and provides his expertise at the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital. With a strong commitment to exceptional patient care, he strives to deliver cutting-edge treatments and improve the field of ophthalmology through research and education. Dr Toalster is a member of the ANZ Cornea Society and actively contributes to the RANZCO Curriculum Committee.
