Dr Ewan Macdermid

Dr. Ewan MacDermid is a highly qualified and experienced consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon based in Western Sydney. He has a specialist interest in minimally invasive (keyhole) and open surgery for a wide variety of conditions including bowel and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anal conditions, hernias, and gallstones.

Dr. MacDermid completed his medical education at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland before specializing in general surgical training in Western Sydney. His journey continued to become a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019. Then he undertook sub-specialist training in colorectal surgery at Royal North Shore, Nepean, and Bankstown-Lidcombe hospitals with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ).

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. MacDermid has conducted and supervised award-winning cancer research. In 2018, he was awarded the Mark Killingback Prize for his work examining socioeconomic differences in colorectal cancer in Western Sydney. Dr. MacDermid has also received a Masters of Surgery in 2011 at the University of Sydney, where he is now serving as a clinical lecturer.

Dr. MacDermid is accredited by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) through his membership of General Surgeons Australia (GSA). He is also affiliated with the CSSANZ. Dr. MacDermid's special interests include surgery and treatment for colorectal cancer, anal conditions such as hemorrhoids, fissures, and fistulas, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, gastroscopy and colonoscopy, rectal incontinence and surgery for prolapse, laparoscopic hernia repair, and laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.
