Dr David O'Donnell

Dr David O’Donnell is a highly acclaimed Cardiologist, specialising in Electrophysiology. He is based in Heidelberg, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and is associated with Warringal Private Hospital. With extensive experience in the field, Dr O’Donnell has performed over 5000 EP studies and ablations, as well as over 5000 device implants.

Dr O’Donnell obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 1993. During his time at university, he was recognized with nine undergraduate awards, including the Association of Medical Officers of Health Prize for the top Medical student in 1992, the HG Furnell Award for the most outstanding medical student for 1992/93, and the Senior Medical Staff Award for the top student of 1993.

After completing his initial training at Austin Hospital, Dr O’Donnell pursued Advanced Training in Electrophysiology at the Freeman Hospital in the United Kingdom. His exceptional work in the field led to him receiving prestigious awards such as the 2002 NASPE Fellow Clinical Research Award, the 2002 Eric and Bonnie Prystowsky Clinical Research Award, and being shortlisted for the NASPE Young Investigators Award.

Dr O’Donnell's main focus in Electrophysiology is the use of novel approaches for the ablation of Atrial Fibrillation and Ventricular Tachycardia. Additionally, he has developed pioneering techniques for Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) and is actively involved in research in this area. He is committed to sharing his knowledge and expertise with others and conducts device implant courses, training and upskilling both Australian and international colleagues in various therapeutic areas, with a particular emphasis on CRT. Dr O’Donnell is frequently invited to present and provide his insights at international Electrophysiology congresses.

Prior to joining the GenesisCare Board, Dr O’Donnell served as the Director of Electrophysiology at Austin Health, Heidelberg. Currently, he is the Chairman of the CMC for GenesisCare Cardiology Victoria and a Member of the Board of Directors for Genesis Care. Dr O’Donnell's outstanding medical background, extensive experience, and dedication to education have positioned him as one of the leading Electrophysiologists globally.
