Dr Jai Raman

Dr. Jai Raman has more than 21 years of experience in serving as a consultant and attending surgeon in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. During his career, he has operated in Australia, India and the USA on over 6100 cardiac operations and 1000 thoracic operations. His areas of expertise include minimally invasive cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, surgery for heart failure, complex valve repair, and arterial grafting in coronary surgery and arrhythmia surgery.

Apart from his clinical and operative experience, Dr. Raman is also strongly involved in research. His research interests include translating technology, evaluating device safety and innovation in valvular heart disease treatment. He has played a crucial role in building expertise and teams in complex cardiac surgery at various universities. He has contributed significantly to research in his field, publishing over 235 research publications, two theses, and two books as an editor.

Dr. Raman has a particular interest in utilizing new dynamic chemical imaging to conduct point-of-care pathology without excisional biopsy. He is also an expert on innovative treatments for valvular heart disease using beating heart and extra-cardiac treatment of functional mitral regurgitation. In addition, Dr. Raman is an advocate for plate fixation of sternum and ribs, an evolving technology that has gained popularity worldwide.
