Mr Ben Dunne

Ben Dunne is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon specializing in Thoracic Surgery. He holds a 2020 Certification in Robotic Thoracic Surgery from AATS/Intuitive Surgical and a 2018 Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery (FRACS) from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Ben has a Masters of Surgery (MS) from the University of Western Australia, where his thesis focused on Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Reconstruction. He also holds various certifications, including the Cardiothoracic Specialty Specific Exam (2014) and the Surgical Primary Exam (2013) from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, as well as the Membership of Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) Exam (2012) from the Royal College of Surgeons in England.

Ben's clinical appointment is at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, where he specializes in Adult Thoracic Surgery, particularly the care of patients with chest malignancies. He is committed to clinical governance, leadership, education, and research, having published over 50 scientific papers and presentations and authored chapters in major thoracic surgical textbooks.

Originally from Dublin, Ben completed his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. His surgical training spanned national and international institutions, including Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia, Westmead Children's Hospital in New South Wales, and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Queensland. He furthered his expertise through a 2-year Fellowship in Lung Transplantation, Advanced Thoracic Surgery, Minimally Invasive, and Robotic Thoracic Surgery at Toronto General Hospital in Canada.

Recently returning to Australia, Ben has joined the team at the Royal Melbourne Hospital/Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive and patient-centered care. Ben's surgical skills encompass advanced bronchoscopy and airway interventions, chest wall surgery, and pulmonary resections, including VATS and robotic lobectomy.
