Mr Barnett is a renowned Australian Cardiothoracic Surgeon known for his exceptional service in general surgery. He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1996 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, later receiving fellowships from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2004 and 2009, respectively. To further hone his skills, he underwent specialized fellowship training at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre and the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in the U.S.A. in thoracic surgical oncology and cardiac surgical fellowship, respectively. Currently, Mr Barnett is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne and serves as a highly valued Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at various hospitals such as the Austin Hospital, Sir Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, Royal Melbourne, and the Western General Hospitals. He continually works as part of the multi-disciplinary teams at these centers, dedicating his skills to deliver the highest care to patients with thoracic malignancies. Mr Barnett has pioneered Australia's first public hospital program for robotic resection of mediastinal tumors in collaboration with Assoc. Professor Gavin Wright, following his return from the US in 2010. Over the years, the program has developed to include complex anatomic lung resection, making Mr Barnett a distinguished figure in his realm of expertise.
