Dr Christine O'Neill

Dr Chris O’Neill is a highly experienced general and endocrine surgeon based in Newcastle, Australia. She completed her medical degree with honours at Melbourne University in 2000, before gaining experience in a broad range of surgical specialties in Melbourne and rural Victoria. In 2005, she moved to Newcastle to undertake her general surgical training and passed the General Surgical Fellowship Exam in 2008.

Dr O’Neill’s interest in endocrine surgery led her to complete a two-year endocrine surgery fellowship with the University of Sydney Endocrine Surgical Unit in 2009-2010, where she received subspecialty training in thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal surgery. She has also gained extensive experience in the treatment of breast cancer and benign breast disease, including oncoplastic breast surgery.

Dr O’Neill is particularly interested in surgical research and holds a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney, where she conducted research in thyroid cancer. She has published multiple research papers in medical journals and presented papers at local and international meetings. Dr O’Neill also acts as a reviewer for international peer-reviewed journals.

Currently, Dr O’Neill is a member of the committee of the Endocrine Surgery Section of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, chairs the Newcastle Endocrine Surgery Multidisciplinary Team, and serves as the Supervisor of General Surgical Training for the Newcastle/Gosford Network. In addition to her professional pursuits, Dr O’Neill is a mother of three children and enjoys pursuing her musical and sporting interests in her limited spare time.

Dr O’Neill conducts operations at John Hunter and Belmont Hospitals, as well as several private hospitals in the Newcastle area. With her extensive experience, dedication to surgical research, and commitment to her patients and profession, Dr O’Neill is a highly respected specialist in her field.
