Dr Scarlett Shackleton

Dr Shackleton is a highly skilled surgeon whose interest lies in surgical oncology. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Glasgow and initiated her surgical training at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary before relocating to Australia. Subsequently, she underwent surgical training in the Newcastle network, acquiring her FRACS certification in 2016, along with Australian citizenship. Her expertise in laparoscopic bowel resection for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as perianal pathologies, was consolidated through colorectal fellowship in Tasmania.

Dr Shackleton has an extraordinary talent for breaking down complicated medical problems into simple language, empowering patients to take an active role in their healing process. In addition to her Masters in surgical oncology from the University of Sydney, she has also gained further surgical knowledge in Australia, London, and Madrid. Currently, she divides her time between serving as a public VMO in regional centers such as Lismore and Coffs Harbour, and delivering professional services through surgical outreach for isolated farming communities with the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Dr Shackleton has also contributed her time and skills as a volunteer overseas, further expanding her expertise in many general surgical conditions.

Dr Shackleton's repertoire of surgical expertise encompasses abdominal wall hernia (laparoscopic and open), gallbladder, melanoma and minor facial plastics, and upper and lower endoscopy (GESA accredited). She is a proud provider of general practitioner education on any of the mentioned topics. Her passion for surgical oncology, combined with her extensive experience, makes her a valuable addition to any medical facility.
