Dr Roshan Gunathilake

Meet Dr Gunathilake, a highly experienced Geriatrician and General Physician who provides exceptional quality care to individuals in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. With a keen interest in acute care of unwell older persons, cognitive disorders, falls and perioperative medicine, Dr Gunathilake is widely recognized for his expertise and skill.

Dr Gunathilake has earned dual certifications in General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine at John Hunter Hospital, which he completed in 2015. He currently serves as a Staff Specialist at John Hunter Hospital and is concurrently holding a Conjoint Lecturer position at the University of Newcastle. He is committed to providing compassionate care to his patients, making use of his expertise and his extensive experience in his field.

Dr Gunathilake has received widespread recognition including several national and international awards and scholarships. Amongst these are the Tony Broe Award in Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM, 2014), IMSANZ advanced trainee travelling scholarship (2013), and the American Academy of Dermatology World Congress Fund travel fellowship (2008).His passion for research has led him to work as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, between 2007 and 2009 and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Gunathilake provides comprehensive in-patient services at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital for patients admitted via the Emergency Department, as well as geriatrician consultation services at the Lake Macquarie Private Hospital Specialist Center. He is well-respected for his exceptional medical care, and his continuous dedication to providing his patients with the best care possible.
