Dr Helen Gillespie

Meet Dr. Helen Gillespie, an experienced medical professional with a keen interest in aged care, patient safety, delirium, and dementia. She is currently serving as the Head of Aged Care at the Northern Beaches Hospital under Healthscope. Dr. Gillespie is a senior staff specialist in peri-operative care for older people with an impressive track record of providing quality care and improving patient outcomes.

Dr. Gillespie's passion for teaching and education has taken her to different parts of the world. She has presented at international conferences such as the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) in Thailand, IPA Taiwan, and IAGG USA. She is an esteemed teacher and mentor who educates medical students, allied health professionals, and nursing students at the University of Sydney.

Dr. Gillespie earned her advanced training in geriatrics from the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. Besides, she has worked at prestigious medical institutions worldwide, such as the London Hospital Whitechapel and King Khalid National Guard Hospital Saudi Arabia (where she taught the first female medical students in the country). In 1993, she became the Consultant Physician in Acute and Geriatric Medicine at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. During her time, she was appointed as an Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College School of Medicine.

After returning to Australia in 2004, Dr. Gillespie became the Clinical Director of Rehabilitation and Aged Care in 2005. Recently, she moved to Northern Beaches Hospital, where she is currently the Head of Aged Care. Dr. Gillespie's expertise, experience, and commitment to patient care make her an invaluable member of the health industry, and her inspiring work is making a difference in the lives of many.
