Dr. Charles Douglas is a highly regarded breast cancer and melanoma management specialist who joined The Breast Centre in 2004. He obtained his Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) from the University of Adelaide, a Bachelor of Medicine with Honours, and a Bachelor of Medical Science with First Class Honours from the University of Newcastle. Dr. Douglas gained his fellowship (FRACS) in general surgery in 2003 and has since then dedicated his career exclusively to the management of breast cancer and melanoma.
Dr. Douglas is a valued member of the Hunter New England Breast Cancer and Melanoma Multidisciplinary Teams. He served as the Director of the Newcastle Melanoma Unit between 2010 and 2015, successfully contributing to the advancement of melanoma management. Additionally, Dr. Douglas holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer position in Clinical Ethics and Health Law at the University of Newcastle, to which he previously held an academic appointment from 2004 to 2020. He is a prolific researcher, with over 30 published research papers spanning medical ethics, medical law and surgery.
Dr. Douglas completed his PhD in end-of-life decision making at the University of Sydney in 2012, highlighting his long-standing interest in ethics and law. In 2021, he completed a Juris Doctor / Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the University of Newcastle, where he was awarded the College Medal for academic excellence in July 2022. He was admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of NSW in February 2022, demonstrating his commitment combining his knowledge of medicine and law to make a positive impact in the healthcare industry. Dr. Douglas is admired by patients and colleagues alike, and contributes immensely to the advancement of medical practice through his proficiency and dedication.
