Dr Richard Atkinson

Dr Richard Atkinson is an experienced Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who trained and worked in various prestigious hospitals in Australia and the United Kingdom. He graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney in 2008, then commenced his surgical training in Westmead Hospital network and completed a Master of Surgery in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2013. He continued his advanced surgical training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, working in various Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery departments in Sydney. Dr Atkinson obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and then spent two years in the United Kingdom, working in Oxford University Hospitals and Salford Royal Hospital.

During his time in Oxford University Hospitals, Dr Atkinson focused on Limb reconstruction, Hand Surgery, Head and Neck, and skin cancer reconstruction, utilising innovative reconstructive techniques and microsurgical reconstruction. In Salford Royal Hospital, he worked with Orthopaedic and Plastic surgeons in their hand surgery department, helping to establish a new Plastic Surgery Department in the trust.

After returning to Australia, Dr Atkinson started as a consultant in the Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgery Department at Royal North Shore Hospital and the Plastic Surgery Department at Northern Beaches Hospital. He is highly skilled in all aspects of plastic surgery but has a particular interest in hand and peripheral nerve surgery, microsurgical reconstruction, trauma surgery, limb, and skin cancer reconstruction. With his extensive experience and proficiency, Dr Atkinson provides exceptional care and treatment to his patients.
