James Ledgard is a highly skilled Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with a subspecialty focus on hand and wrist surgery. He completed his five-year Plastic Surgery programme in Sydney and then pursued an additional two-year fellowship training with plastic and orthopaedic surgeons both locally and internationally. During his fellowship in Gothenburg, Sweden, he gained specialized expertise in tetraplegic hand reconstruction and spasticity, while his fellowship in Cape Town, South Africa, focused on traumatic hand reconstruction. Recently, James completed specialized training in elective hand and wrist surgery in the hand department of Sydney Hospital.
James' clinical interests include the treatment of nerve injuries, spasticity, and tetraplegic hand reconstruction. His expertise also extends to skin cancer excision and reconstruction. James works with a team of dedicated hand therapists, nurses, and surgeons to provide optimal outcomes for his patients. He firmly believes in exploring all non-surgical options before recommending invasive procedures.
James works at the public and private hospitals in the North Shore campus where he is actively involved in teaching students, residents, and registrars. Furthermore, each year, James works alongside international fellows to provide them with valuable training.
As a proud family man, James enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, often travelling the coast together. The only regret he has is not learning to surf as a child.
