Dr Hugh Porter

Dr. Hugh Porter is an experienced obstetrician and gynaecologist who is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to women in Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches. With his approachable, supportive, and relaxed demeanor, Dr. Porter is committed to helping his patients achieve their pregnancy goals while providing a stress-free experience.

Dr. Porter began his medical education at the University of Notre Dame Sydney, where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude and received the communication and clinical skills prize and the Vice Chancellor's academic excellence award. He then went on to complete his specialist obstetrician training at Westmead Hospital, after spending three years at the Royal North Shore Hospital. He completed his gynaecology fellowship at the Northern Beaches Hospital and St Vincent's Hospital.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Porter is a respected academic who lectures on a regular basis. He has a faculty position at both the University of Notre Dame and Macquarie University. In recognition of his contributions to medical education, Dr. Porter received the Excellence in Teaching award from the Northern Beaches Hospital Obstetrics and Gynaecology department in 2022.

Dr. Porter is also interested in clinical research and has published research papers, including one in the international journal Prenatal Diagnosis in 2022, concerning EXIT procedures in obstetric care.

Outside of work, Dr. Porter is an avid sportsman with a passion for outdoor activities such as cycling, running, canyoning, climbing, scuba diving, and backcountry skiing. Dr. Porter is also proud of his family, and as a father of two, he understands the concerns and emotions of his patients.
