Dr Joe Dusseldorp

Dr Joe Dusseldorp is a highly-skilled Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon with a passion for transforming the lives of his patients. After graduating from University of Sydney Medical School with Honours, he completed his specialist training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Joe has a diverse range of experience in managing adult and paediatric plastic surgical conditions. He has a particular interest in facial reconstructive and facial nerve reanimation surgery and has trained at leading institutions including Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard University, Boston and John Hopkins, Baltimore in the USA, to learn both medical and surgical aspects of treating patients with facial nerve disorders, peripheral neuropathy, skin cancers, and congenital and post-traumatic facial deformities. He is also a co-author of the definitive text on Auricular Reconstruction.

Breast reconstruction surgery following breast cancer is a significant focus of Joe’s practice, and he is one of the few surgeons in Sydney routinely offering DIEP flap reconstructions. He offers both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery services at various Private Hospitals in Sydney and has admitting rights at Concord Hospital.

Joe’s passion for his work is evident in his strong research focus. He is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at University of Sydney and collaborates with other scientists and clinicians to explore solutions to challenging problems in plastic surgery, including malformations of the ear, facial palsy, cerebral palsy, and peripheral neuropathy in diabetic feet. He is committed to integrating emerging technologies with modern medical practice to bring about advances in surgical management of disease.

Despite his busy schedule, Joe makes time for his growing family and enjoys training specialists in developing nations. He is currently working on a PhD in the clinical translation of emerging biotechnology and developing a novel medical device to improve the lives of children with cerebral palsy.

Joe’s ultimate goal is to remove the stigmata of disease and deformity from people with disfigurement so that they can enjoy normal social interactions, relationships, and rewarding lives.
