Dr Louis Wessels

Dr Louis Wessels is a skilled cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgeon who also holds the position of senior lecturer at the faculty of medicine and health sciences at Macquarie University. He is highly experienced in a full spectrum of procedures within his field, while his focus lies particularly on breast augmentation, reduction, and lifts, as well as facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries. Dr Wessels is also an experienced microsurgeon. He performs reconstructive microsurgeries frequently for breast reconstruction, facial rejuvenation, and head and neck restoration after cancer treatment. Additionally, he has vast expertise in body contouring surgery and non-surgical cosmetic therapies.

Dr Wessels acquired his MBChB in South Africa and underwent internship and general surgery residency training in a highly demanding clinical environment. He completed his Fellowship and adeptly obtained his Master of Medicine in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in South Africa. Subsequently, Dr Wessels graduated from Macquarie University as part of the inaugural batch for the Masters of Advanced Surgery (Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery), earning the Johnson & Johnson Scholarship to do so. In 2015, he completed his second Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, qualifying him for the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr Wessels is a contributor to the Surgical Infection Research Group at Macquarie University and has enriched the field through his world-leading contributions to research on outcomes following breast augmentation surgery and breast implant infection. His areas of clinical interest include cosmetic surgery of the breast, face, and body, as well as reconstructive surgery of the breast, face, head, and neck following cancer or trauma. Dr Wessels' abilities extend to the complex microsurgical techniques required for congenital or acquired defects, thus aptly representing his commitment to providing holistic patient care.
