Dr Peter Wu

Dr. Peter Wu is a highly respected specialist in respiratory and sleep medicine and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He graduated with Honours from the University of NSW with a medical and science degree and received specialist training in respiratory and sleep medicine at Westmead Hospital. Dr. Wu has a busy private practice in Westmead, where he works as a part-time staff specialist at Westmead Public Hospital, and as a Visiting Medical Officer at Westmead Private Hospital. He is also a member of the Cancer Referral Network, where he specializes in the diagnosis and management of lung cancers.

Dr. Wu is known for his expertise in interventional pulmonology, and is one of the leading specialists in Australia with unique skills in diagnostic and therapeutic interventional bronchoscopy. He has expertise in rigid bronchoscopy, laser bronchoscopy, insertion, and removal of Dumon stents. In 2009, he introduced implantable pleural catheters for outpatient management of pleural effusions due to cancer and set up the EBUS-TBNA Service in Westmead in 2011.

In addition to conducting medical consultations and interventional services, Dr. Wu is an expert in diagnostic sleep testing. He runs a high-quality Home Diagnostic Sleep Study Service through his private rooms, which offers suspected sleep apnoea patients the option of accurate diagnostic testing in the comfort of their own homes. Dr. Wu has affiliations with the Sleep Laboratories at Westmead Public Hospital and the Westmead Private Hospital for those who prefer in-laboratory diagnostic testing.

Dr. Wu is a passionate educator who is responsible for the training program of the advanced trainees in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Westmead Hospital. He has introduced many innovative concepts in teaching and education, including Bronchology and Pleural Diseases Education Session, Respiratory Failure Education Session, and Interstitial Lung Disease Multi-Disciplinary Meetings. Dr. Wu is also involved in numerous state committees to improve the quality and the standard of care for respiratory and sleep medicine in the broader community.

Dr. Wu is a member of various professional organizations, including The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), the Australasian Sleep Association (ASA), the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the American Thoracic Society (ATS), the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR), the World Association of Bronchology (WAB), the NSW Respiratory Interventional Network (RIN), the Australian and New Zealand Interventional Pulmonology Group (ANZIP), and the Pulmonary Hypertension Society of Australian and New Zealand (PHANZ).
