Dr Neil Jeyasingam is a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and psychodynamic psychotherapy supervisor based in Homebush, Sydney, New South Wales. With over fifteen years of experience, Dr Jeyasingam obtained his medical degree and psychiatry training in Sydney and advanced his training at the Maudsley in London. Dr Jeyasingam is a former research scholar of the Institute of Psychiatry in Sydney and the Institute of Psychiatry in the UK. He has published research on phenomenology and personality disorders in the elderly. Currently, he serves as the area clinical director for mental health services in a major regional centre in public practice. In addition, he is a Foundation Accredited Member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand Psychotherapy Faculty, a Clinical Associate Professor with Sydney University, and the former Chair of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry NSW. Dr Jeyasingam has extensive experience providing assessments and treatments to patients throughout the life cycle. His expertise encompasses psychiatry assessments for patients aged 12 and older, allowing him to treat adolescents, general adults, and older patients. Throughout his career, he has worked in rural areas, often being the sole psychiatrist available for a vast geographical region of 196,000 square kilometres. In his philosophy and approach, Dr Jeyasingam emphasizes a collaborative relationship with general practitioners to determine the best health outcomes for his patients. Through comprehensive consultations, he aims to provide a thorough treatment plan, which often eliminates the need for further visits. He has expertise in anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, complex trauma, dementia-related disorders, depression, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), epilepsy, functional neurological disorder, neuropsychiatry, obsessive-compulsive disorders, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, prolonged grief, psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychosis, and schizophrenia. As a clinical associate professor at Sydney University, Dr Jeyasingam has had experiences with various age groups, including 1-17, 18-60, 60+, and 16-24.
