Dr Brendan O'Sullivan

Dr. Brendan O'Sullivan is a Psychiatrist and PhD MA MB BS BSc(Hons1) FRANZCP. With over 30 years of combined experience in private practice and the public sector, he is a highly qualified and respected professional in his field. Dr. O'Sullivan graduated with first-class honors from the University of Sydney, earning a BSc (Hons 1) in 1977 and an MB BS in 1980. He went on to obtain his PhD in 1992, also from the University of Sydney.

As a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, Dr. O'Sullivan specializes in adult mental health, with a particular interest in various conditions such as Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders (including PTSD and OCD), Personality Disorders, and Drug and Alcohol problems. He is certified by the Australian College of Psychiatrists to train and supervise Psychiatric Registrars and overseas-qualified Psychiatrists.

Throughout his career, Dr. O'Sullivan has published more than 100 papers and articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. One of his most significant research articles, titled "Positron-emission tomography studies of cross-modality inhibition in selective attentional tasks: closing the 'mind's eye'," was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 1995. This groundbreaking work showcased Dr. O'Sullivan's expertise and contributions to the field of psychiatry.

Dr. O'Sullivan's expertise extends to working with a diverse range of patients, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, doctors, psychiatrists, medical students, as well as individuals from the gay and lesbian community. He provides opinion and reports (MBS item 291), professional supervision, shared care, and urgent assessments.
