Dr H. Kwon Kang is an ophthalmic surgeon specialising in retinal disease and vitreoretinal surgery. Based in Mona Vale, Sydney, Australia, he has been practicing since 1995. Dr Kang obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Sydney, where he also completed a Bachelor of Science degree, graduating with the University Medal.
After his ophthalmology training at Prince of Wales Hospital, Dr Kang further pursued his passion for retinal surgery through a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina at Southampton University Hospital in the UK. He subsequently worked as a consultant in the same field at the hospital from 2005 to 2006.
Since returning to Australia in 2007, Dr Kang has developed a strong reputation as a dedicated surgeon with high ethical standards, exceptional surgical skills, and effective patient communication. He specialises in surgeries for conditions such as retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr Kang is actively involved in research, focusing on retinal vein occlusion, macular degeneration, and macular hole. His research contributions have been published in major international journals, showcasing his commitment to advancing knowledge in his field.
Outside of his clinical practice, Dr Kang is passionate about humanitarian work. He has been involved with the Myanmar Eye Care Project since 2003, providing essential eye care services to those in need. In recognition of his efforts, Dr Kang received the XOVA (eXcellence in Ophthalmology Vision Award) in 2014, representing the program. This prestigious award, with just five winners chosen from 88 high-quality submissions by eye specialist institutions worldwide, further highlights Dr Kang's dedication to serving the community.
