Dr Lakshmi Fernandes

Dr. Lakshmi Fernandes is a Consultant Psychiatrist with 11 years of experience in the sub-speciality of Consultation-Liaison psychiatry in the UK. After relocating to Perth in 2011, she worked at Fiona Stanley Hospital in the Consultation Liaison Service and the chronic pain team. Currently, she works at the neurosciences unit in Graylands Hospital and at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Fernandes is a specialist in working with people who have difficulty adjusting to severe physical illness and experience co-existing physical and mental health issues. Her expertise is chronic pain, mood and anxiety related to chronic illness, and functional neurological disorders. She aims to achieve optimal care for her patients by advocating for integrated healthcare and using a multidisciplinary team.

As a collaborative practitioner, Dr. Fernandes works with her patients, their families, and their referrers to deliver the best outcomes for her patients. She is an accredited supervisor for post-graduate training in Psychiatry and has several publications focusing on the treatment of severe irritable bowel syndrome.

Previously, Dr. Fernandes headed the Sheffield eating disorders service in the UK and worked as the lead Psychiatrist in the chronic pain clinic. In Perth, she has provided psychiatric input to various clinics, including Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Respiratory Medicine.
