Professor Stephen Lewis is an accomplished neurosurgeon and currently the Director of Perth Neurosurgery, a private clinic specialising in cerebrovascular neurosurgery, brain tumour/neuro-oncology, and spinal disorders. He received his neurosurgery certification from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2000 and completed a fellowship in complex cervical spine and skull base neurosurgery with Professor Alan Crockard and Mr. Neil Kitchen at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London.
During his tenure at the University of Florida, Dr. Lewis worked in one of the most prominent academic neurosurgical departments in the United States, where he conducted more than 1500 neurosurgical vascular procedures for cerebral aneurysms, cerebrovascular bypass grafts, surgical resection of cerebral and spinal vascular malformations, and carotid endarterectomies. He became the chief of the neurovascular service, developed an expertise in endoscopic anterior skull base surgery, and specialized in minimally invasive endoscopic approaches to anterior skull base tumours. Dr. Lewis has a clinical and past NIH funded research interest in cerebrovascular disease, skull base tumours, and head injury, and it has led him to co-direct 15 surgical anatomy and surgical skill courses with Professor Rhoton, educating more than 500 participants worldwide.
Dr. Lewis continues to offer the full range of cranial and spinal neurosurgical procedures at Perth Neurosurgery, with a special interest in neurovascular disorders, surgical neuro-oncology, and adult degenerative spinal disorders. He is highly respected in both the United States and Australia, with over 70 scientific articles and multiple awards to his name.
