Dr Joy Chakraborty

Dr Joy Chakraborty is a highly skilled Specialist General and Colorectal Surgeon based in Brisbane. After completing his General Surgery training in Queensland, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and undertook three years of further training to subspecialize in Colorectal Surgery. His extensive experience includes training at prestigious institutions such as The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Bankstown and St.George Private Hospitals in Sydney, and The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Epworth Hospitals in Melbourne.

Dr Chakraborty has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery and is an expert in advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is a provisional member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand, a member of General Surgeons Australia, and accredited with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) to perform colonoscopy and endoscopy. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and has published articles in national and international medical journals.

In addition to his subspecialty in Colorectal Surgery, Dr Chakraborty also offers treatment options for hernia repair, both emergency and elective general surgery conditions, and common causes of rectal bleeding such as haemorrhoids, anal fissure and anal fistula. He provides prompt investigations and treatment options for both benign and malignant conditions which include colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, and rectal prolapse.
