Dr Douglas Shaw

Dr. Douglas Shaw is an accomplished surgeon who specialises in thyroid, head and neck, and skin cancer. He has recently joined the Northern Beaches Hospital, where he provides expert surgical care to patients, tailored to meet their individual needs.

Dr. Shaw graduated in 2007 with a medical degree from the University of Sydney, followed by a Master of Surgery in 2010, in which he investigated the role of sentinel lymph node biopsy in high-risk non-melanoma skin cancers. He then completed his General Surgery training, which took him through the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital network. Following this, he went on to complete fellowships in Surgical Oncology at Prince of Wales Hospital and in Head and Neck Surgery at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.

Dr. Shaw is also associated with Macquarie University Hospital and attends the Endocrine multidisciplinary team meetings at both locations. He offers comprehensive assessments for thyroid pathology and conducts minimally invasive parathyroid surgeries, ensuring that his patients receive the best possible care.

Dr. Shaw is well-versed with all skin and soft tissue tumour pathologies, from simple lipomas to rare soft tissue tumours and sarcomas. He is experienced in treating all skin cancers and uses local flap reconstructive techniques to achieve optimal aesthetic outcomes. He stays updated with the latest advances in melanoma therapies, and performs sentinel lymph node biopsy procedures. He has a particular interest in treating patients with advanced skin cancers of the head and neck, as well as patients with oral and salivary gland cancers.

Dr. Shaw lives with his family in Northern Beaches, where his wife works as a Breast Surgeon. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as mountain bike riding, surfing, and soccer with his boys, whom he cherishes.
