Prof Rupert Leong

Prof Rupert Leong is a highly esteemed Gastroenterologist based in Sydney, Australia. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Prof Leong is currently the Director of Endoscopy at Concord Hospital, where he also heads the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Services. He serves as the Clinical Discipline Head of Gastroenterology at Macquarie University Hospital and holds the position of Professor of Medicine at both the University of Sydney and Macquarie University.

With an impressive academic background, Prof Leong obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Western Australia. He then completed his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Gastroenterology. In addition to his extensive clinical work, Prof Leong is actively involved in research and academic pursuits. He has published over 265 scientific journal articles in esteemed publications such as Nature Reviews, Gastroenterology, Gut, and Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology. Many of his publications serve as senior guidelines for the management of gastrointestinal conditions, including acute severe ulcerative colitis and therapeutic drug monitoring of IBD biological agents. Prof Leong's research has been widely cited and endorsed by national and international gastroenterological societies.

Prof Leong's dedication to his profession is evident in his involvement in various medical organizations. He chairs the Medical Advisory Council at Central Sydney Private Hospital and serves on the boards of IBD Sydney and Central Sydney Private Hospital. Additionally, he is an associate editor of Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology and serves on the international editorial boards of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Despite his numerous accomplishments, Prof Leong remains committed to providing exemplary patient care. He conducts private endoscopy services at Macquarie University Hospital and Sydney Specialist Medical Centre, offering his expertise in gastroscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopy, and ERCP procedures.
