Dr Constantine Karihaloo

Dr Costa Karihaloo is a highly accomplished surgeon with over fifteen years of experience in bariatric surgery. He completed his medical training at Sydney University, after which he pursued surgical training in the Hunter region. Dr Karihaloo further honed his skills by completing the Ramsay Fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery on the Gold Coast.

Upon returning to Newcastle, Dr Karihaloo has worked in both private and public sectors, serving as the former Director of General Surgery at the John Hunter Hospital. He is currently the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital. Dr Karihaloo is an expert in bariatric surgery, having performed over 1000 successful cases since he performed his first laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in the region in 2008. Subsequently, he performed the first laparoscopic gastric bypass, the first laparoscopic mini-gastric bypass, and the first laparoscopic post pyloric bypass in the Hunter region.

Dr Karihaloo is passionate about his work and regularly contributes to national and international meetings to share his knowledge and expertise. He has a keen interest in body composition post-bariatric surgery, as well as adjuvant medical therapies post weight loss surgery. Dr Karihaloo is committed to lifelong follow-up care for his patients and prioritises ongoing research and quality improvement to optimize patient outcomes.
